The British Hospital is a reference in skin cancer

Due to its excellent results worldwide Mohs technique to remove skin tumors was implemented.

The excellent results obtained by the British Hospital since it began applying the so-called Mohs Technique more than 7 years ago for the removal of skin tumors, has consolidated it as a reference center in the treatment of this type of cancer.

 

With continuous cure rates for these tumors that range from the 99% for the more than 800 cases treated since October 2016, the British Hospital obtained excellent results, fully aligned with the background and comparative records of the best health centers internationally.

Precisely, the so-called Mohs Technique for the removal of skin tumors was implemented at the Hospital due to its excellent results worldwide.

 

To achieve this, professional surgeons, pathologists and instrumentalists’ doctors from the British Hospital have trained abroad and continue to do so periodically. Weeks ago, the team made up of plastic surgeons, pathologists and pathology technicians, and an instrumentalist doctor have participated in the presentation of clinical cases at the University of Cutaneous Oncology of the Albert Fleming Institute in Buenos Aires.

 

In Latin America the Fleming Institute is a reference regarding research, teaching, prevention, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment of cancer. “The training and commitment of our Human Resources was and it is essential to ensure the success of the implementation of Mohs technique,” said Dr. Verónica Morales a reference doctor on the subject at the British Hospital.

 

The professional team led by Dr. Morales take part in meetings and in the discussion of cases with that and other medical centers abroad, in site or remotely, and they participate and organize medical meetings regarding different types of skin cancer, for the treatment of which it is recommended the application of the Mohs Technique.

Permanent training, interdisciplinary work and the generation of knowledge in support of the medical care provided is one of the hallmarks of the British Hospital.

 

Mohs technique allows tumors to be completely removed and healthy tissue to be spared, which facilitates to get better aesthetic results as well as preserving the functionality of the affected area.

 

The specialist highlighted that one of the main benefits is obtained “in the treatment of facial skin carcinomas with a high cure rate and preserving the greatest amount of healthy tissue which helps to get the best result of cosmetic reconstruction of the patients.” It allows us to simultaneously contemplate “the oncological, the functional and the cosmetic,” she summarized.

 

Morales pointed out that, "in all cases the percentage of disease recurrence was equal to zero which confirms the already known virtues of the technique for the treatment of these types of skin cancer."
